The Breman Museum will be designating one day per month as Homeschool Day! Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday January 15, 2015, homeschoolers will be able to visit the Breman Museum on one designated day per month, for a discounted price of $5 per student and $7 per adult!
Beginning at 10:30 am with a guided tour of the Where the Wild Things Are: Maurice Sendak In His Own Words and Pictures exhibition. Then at 11:30, older students (age 10+) and adults can participate in a guided tour of our Absence of Humanity: The Holocaust Years gallery, while the younger children participate in an art activity and view the film “Really Rosie.” And of course, there’s lots of time to play!
The Sendak exhibition features drawings, artifacts and biographical information as well as fun, interactive activities. Upon entering the gallery visitors of all ages are immersed into Sendak’s beloved stories. The exhibition includes interactive locations where visitors dress up like wild things, slide into a bowl of chicken soup and pick one of many of Sendak’s books to read on Rosie’s Stoop. Additionally there are videos that emphasize Sendak’s legacy and emphasize strategies for reading with children. Younger visitors are introduced to Sendak’s timeless characters, while older children and pre-teens gain an understanding of how sketches and drawings are turned into published works.
We do ask that you RSVP, just so we have an idea of how many docents we will need.
The Breman Museum is located in the Selig Center, which is a kosher-only facility. No non-kosher Food or Drink is permitted in the building. Goldfish crackers are not kosher but you can click here for a list of kosher snacks. Although we do not permit food in the gallery, with young children we do understand that snacks in the lobby may be necessary and so long as the snack is kosher, it is acceptable. Whole fruit and vegetables are always kosher.
